Facing Cancer as a Friend

In case you haven’t heard, Facing Cancer as a Friend: How to Support Someone who has Cancer, is now available in both Kindle and paperback formats!

This morning, Dan and I were having coffee and a bagel, on Panera’s patio,  when I overheard a conversation that stopped me dead. I wasn’t trying to be nosy. It’s just that when I hear the words “cancer,” and “lymph nodes,” my ears perk up. I looked over to see 4 couples sitting around a table, all the ladies on one end, and the men on the other. They were all retirement age. I saw the man who was telling the story of his cancer discovery. He was telling his buddies about the hardened lymph nodes he’d found over his left collar bone. He was rubbing them with his hands.

It took me back.

Tears came to my eyes as I recalled those first days after the discovery of Dan’s enlarged lymph nodes. I feel it like I did back then.

I remember being so afraid, feeling so alone, after the realization that Dan had cancer. All of our hopes and plans seemed to slip through our fingers like mist. We’ve learned a lot since those early days—things we wish we didn’t have to know.

That’s why we started writing. We each had a different purpose. Dan wanted to leave a legacy, in particular, a spiritual legacy. I wanted to help people who’re going through what we’ve gone through. I wanted to offer hope and experienced knowledge.

If you know someone who has cancer, then you need the message in this book.

I am very grateful for the straightforward honesty this book has been written with. To the point and caring towards the patient, the caregiver, the family, as well as all of us out here, who need to hear from you. Thank you and God bless you!

Dear Trudy,
Thank you so much for your kind words. Bless you as well!

Chemotherapy, radiation, and some infections can result in mouth sores, tender gums, sore throat and/or a sore throat. These problems often times also result in difficulties with eating resulting in weight loss.

Hi Oncologist Denver. Yes, my husband suffered from mouth sores for years. They are more controlled now using a combination of OTC products and magic mouthwash. Folic acid supplements prescribed by his palliative care doc also help. Saltwater rinses several times a day are also beneficial.
